Teenagers are perhaps doing worse in school due to school starting too early in the morning. A student survey revealed that teenagers who start school between 7 and 7:40 a.m. do worse in school than kids who start school at 8:20 a.m. Why is this? Students are too tired in the morning to pay attention, they can’t concentrate, they aren’t participating in class, and they are getting very bad grades.

Kids are very tired in the morning, which can cause them to sleep during class thus giving the end result of doing poorly in school. If school started later in the day, then there would be fewer kids sleeping in class.

An article from Education World magazine states that kids fall asleep less in elementary school, which starts at 8:30 a.m., than kids in middle school, which starts at 7:30 a.m.

Also, students who start school early perhaps can’t concentrate as well during the first few hours of school. Kids not taking notes properly and not paying attention are some of the effects of low concentration due to school starting too early. Therefore, if the time was changed to a later time of day, the students would be able to pay attention better and find more success in school.

The last reason school should start later is that kids aren’t participating as much and might get bad grades in the work they do in the morning. They might doze off and stop raising their hands. They could also just close their eyes and shut teachers out, causing them to get bad work and behavior grades. If that happens often, some kids could have a bad report card.

Some people think that school starting early is good. These people think that they have more time to do homework and sports and other things they like to do. However, if school starts later, kids would be able to do homework faster because they would not be so tired and would have concentrated more in school, leading them to remember more of what they need to do. Therefore, these people could get the homework off their chests quickly and have plenty of times for sports.

In conclusion, teenagers are doing worse in school due to school starting too early in the morning. School should start later in the morning because kids go to sleep in class. They also cannot concentrate or pay attention as well in the morning as in the afternoon. The last reason is that kids wouldn’t participate as much and get bad grades in school work and behavior classes they have in the morning. That is why school should start later in the morning.
