— Albany River Rats alternate captain Mike Angelidis looked dejected when he left the ice midway through the second period on Saturday night, and his mood hadn't brightened at all after the game, as he left the lockerroom with his left arm in a sling.

Angelidis will undergo an MRI today after injuring his left shoulder in the Rats' season opener, a 6-3 loss to Manchester at the Times Union Center.

It's the same shoulder he separated in late March last season. He had offseason surgery to repair it.

"I don't know what's going on," he said after the game. "We'll take all the precautions, and see what happens on Monday.

"My neck and my shoulder hit the boards flush, the same thing that happened in Providence."

Angelidis was hurt at 10:33 of the second when he lost his edge barreling toward the right post while defended by the Monarchs defenseman Patrick Mullen. Angelidis slammed into the endboards, and was motionless for a few moments. He headed to the locker room clutching his left elbow, and did not return.

"I felt good the first period, got in my first fight, got my legs going, I felt pretty good out there, and then .. . it's just been a bad year for me right now. Two shoulder separations and a bus crash. It's tough."

The Rats don't play again until Friday, when they host Portland at 7 p.m.
