Lady Luck strikes again at Halfmoon Stewart's Shop
HALFMOON For the second time in five months the Stewart’s Shop at 454 Route 146 in Halfmoon has sold a $1 million lottery ticket.
Seventy-three-year-old Shirley Fleming of Halfmoon purchased her winning ticket on a whim when she stopped at Stewart’s on May 17. Fleming retired six years ago from her job as a clerk at CVS Pharmacy. She has four children and three grandchildren.
Fleming won with an instant-win New York Millionaire scratch-off ticket. She bought two tickets that day. “I won $10 off the first and was happy with that,” she said at a press conference this morning at the store where she bought the ticket. “I scratched the second and wasn’t quite sure what to do because I’m not used to seeing so many zeros.”
Pamela Fitch of Mechanicville, who purchased her $1 million Big Bucks scratch-off ticket at the same Stewart’s back in January, presented Fleming with her over-sized check at the shop.
The money will be paid to Fleming from the New York State Lottery in installments of $50,000 a year for the next 20 years. Her annual check will total $33,015 after taxes. Fleming and her husband, Paul, plan to use the money to pay off their mortgage and relax. “My husband was planning to retire soon,” Fleming said. “Now he can retire without worry.”
