No cell phones in school? I need my phone in school. What if there is an emergency?
You don’t need cell phones in school. If there is an emergency, you could use the phones in school or have your teacher get your parents to come and get you.
I interviewed my teacher, Miss Popek, on why kids shouldn’t have cell phones in school. She told me it would be a distraction to other students.
Also, the cell phones could be damaged or stolen. And kids having cell phones leads to bullying or teasing for kids who don’t have cell phones.
I asked if Miss Popek thought phones could put their minds on something else besides school work. She said, “Absolutely; if phones are with them, they could get tempted to contact someone.”
She also said, “Ringtones, texting and trying to fix phones can be a distraction to others that are working.” If ringtones are going off, nobody will be listening to what the teacher is saying. Miss Popek said, “It never happened to me before, but I know that it would be distracting.”
If your cell phone is in school, it is easy to forget to turn it off. It can be distracting if your ringtone is going off or text message alerts are going off. It can also stop kids from learning because the ringtones are usually loud.
You also have the ability to cheat. Cheating in school has increased by using the phone’s Internet access or calculator.
Cell phones should be banned from school because it takes away from receiving the best education.
