— Mohonasen’s remarkable postseason run ended Tuesday night, as the Mighty Warriors fell to Section III champion Mexico, 4-2, in the regional baseball championship game at Alliance Stadium.

“The kids had a great run,” said Mighty Warriors coach Jim Huggins. “They [Mexico] made a great defensive play in the seventh inning. If we got a hit there, who knows.”

The Warriors scored first, as Sean Shields had an infield single, stole second and scored on Ben Dalton’s single in the second inning.

Mexico came back and built a 4-1 lead after five innings.

In the Mohonasen sixth, Vinny DeMarco walked, and pinch runner Luke Flood came around on Robert Tedesco’s double.

Shields led off the Mohonasen seventh with a single, and Dalton ripped a shot down the third base line. The Mexico third baseman snared the line drive and turned it into a double play.

“Dalton’s really been hitting the ball, and he hit another shot,” said Huggins. “But their third baseman made a big play.”

Shields and Tedesco both had two hits, as Mohonasen finished with five base hits.

“We didn’t quite have the bats like we did in the last few games,” said Huggins, whose team finished 10-14. “But they played hard.

“Nobody expected us to do anything in sectionals, but they battled every innnig o every game.”

The two regional finals set to be played locally were postponed Tuesday, and will be played today.

Saratoga Central Catholic will meet Section VII champion Beekmantown at 4 p.m. at Queensbury High School in Class B, and Schenectady Christian School played Clifton Fine of Section X in a Class D contest at 4 p.m. at Bleecker Stadium.
