I'm not buying the Sean Avery is a bad guy act like the rest of the NHL is. For what? Making a comment that was in jest. It might not have been in good taste, but in this day and age, it was mild. For distracting Marty Brodeur in the 2008 playoffs? For calling him Fatso?

This league allows dirty players such as Derian Hatcher and many more, but has no room for an agitator like Avery? Remember Ken Linseman? How about Claude Lemieux?

Banning Avery was borders on absurd. I could see the Stars suspending him and sitting him down to straighten him out, but he didn't kill anybody did he? Did he get arrested for DWI? For shooting himself? For taking steroids? Compared to baseball, what Avery did equates to a kid stealing a bag of Doritos from a convenience store. The NHL overreacted, and though we may not like Avery's antics, to deny him the chance to play based on what he did is more criminal that what he said.
