Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake school projects vote still on until 9 p.m.; voter turnout low
BURNT HILLS & BALLSTON LAKE The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Central School District vote on a $19.6 million package of district facilities improvements is commencing today despite school sessions being cancelled because of the weather.
District spokeswoman Christy Multer said voter turnout at the high school has been small so far, but she hopes it will improve before the polls close at 9 p.m.
"As of noon we only had about 120 votes cast," she said.
The list of projects has been broken down into three parts, and voters are asked to decide on each of them separately.
Energy improvements in several school buildings will total $12.5 million and are offered in bulk as one of the proposals. Traffic and parking improvements at Stevens Elementary School and O'Rourke Middle School on Lake Hill Road as well as upgrades at the high school track and gym and septic repairs make up the second proposition that totals almost $4 million.
The third proposition is for $3.1 million in upgraded communications systems throughout the district.
Multer said that normally votes on school projects draw more than 1,000 voters in the district, which covers parts of the towns of Glenville, Ballston, Clifton Park and Charlton.
Voting is taking place in the high school gymnasium on Lakehill Road.
