Here are the top visual arts recommendations, listed chronologically, for fall as chosen by Gazette visual arts writer Karen Bjornland:

Judy Pfaff exhibit at Massry Center, College of Saint Rose, Albany — Contemporary artist Judy Pfaff, spotlighted in the PBS series “Art 21,” is the debut artist at the college’s art gallery in the new Massry Center for the Arts. “Paperworks, Year of the Dog, Pig, Rat, Etc.” Opens Sept. 21.

Grand opening at EMPAC, RPI campus, Troy — The $142 million EMPAC building, a laboratory and performance space for high-tech mergers of science and arts, celebrates its grand opening. Three weeks of events beginning on Oct. 3.

Andy Warhol photos at University Art Museum, University at Albany — More than 100 original Polaroid photographs by Andy Warhol will be revealed at UAlbany, along with “Outer and Inner Space,” his 1966 film masterpiece starring eccentric Edie Sedgwick. Opening Oct. 23.

Sol LeWitt retrospective at MASS MoCA, North Adams, Mass. — MASS MoCA unveils a major Sol LeWitt retrospective in a new section of the museum, with more than 100 wall drawings representing 40 years of the late artist’s work. The drawings will remain at the museum for 25 years. Opening Nov. 16.

Rockwell Kent exhibit at New York State Museum, Albany — The life and work of American artist and writer Rockwell Kent are explored in an exhibit of paintings, photos, books and more. Opens Nov. 22.
