ALBANY Zay Richardson scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns Saturday, and Albany Academy rallied to win in head coach Tony Fruscio’s debut, 20-16, over Class B foe Schalmont.
Richardson’s 46-yard touchdown dash erased a 16-14 deficit. Richardson also scored on a five-yard scamper, and finished with 147 yards on 15 carries.
Academy senior Jimmer Bennett caught five passes for 60 yards, and increased both of his Section II records for career catches (127) and career yards (2,140). The Gazette first-team all-star also sealed the victory on a late interception with Schalmont driving for the go-ahead score, and ran for a two-point conversion.
Madison DeCerce’s 39-yard touchdown run, and Vince Gallo’s two-point conversion run gave Schalmont its 16-14 lead in the final quarter. Gallo rushed for 127 yards on 20 carries.

Derrick Pitts ran 61 yards for a Bishop Gibbons touchdown, passed 23 yards to Johnny Villanueva for another and recorded a quarterback sack for a safety. Pitts ran 15 times for 129 yards and was 7-for-10 pasing for 88 yards. Ryan Maxwell caught four balls for 50 yards.

Danny Carillo scored a first-half goal, and Zack McMallen had a pair of second half assists as Bethlehem beat Colonie, 4-0, in a Suburban Council game.
Mike Mulhall, Harrison Lane and Tom Klim padded the Eagles lead in the second half, and Dan Maddock made six saves for the shutout.
Adam Symer scored on a header 15 minutes into the second half, and Jack Bouchard and Jeff Hajek followed with goals to lift South Glens Falls past Chittenango, 3-0, at the Hall of Fame Tournament in Oneonta.
Hajek and James Catillaz picked up assists for the Bulldogs (3-0), and Erik Curley stopped three shots.
Josh Krajcir finished a cross from Mike Capano seven minutes into the second sudden death overtime as Gloversville (3-0) edged Waterford-Halfmoon, 1-0, in the opening round of the Mayfield Tournament.
James Royal’s goal with three minutes left carried Mayfield over Stillwater, 1-0, in the other contest.

Girls’ soccer
stever earns mvp
Jenna Stever scored two goals and assisted on another, and garnered most valuable player honors after leading Fort Plain over Berne-Knox-Westerlo, 4-1, in the championship game of the Hilltoppers’ tournament.
Ashley Crews and Kelsey
Logan also scored for Fort Plain, while teammates Julia Jackson and Karissa Belden were selected the event’s outstanding defender and goalkeeper, respectively.
Bethany Young tallied three times, and Kelsey Bowerman and Karina McClelland also connected in Canajoharie’s 5-1 consolation-game win over Wells. Young was tabbed the tourney’s outstanding offensive performer.
Alexa Veeder and Meghan Scott scored goals, Maura Tuffey and Tess Massaroni had assists, and Casey Spicer made nine saves to propel Holy Names past Notre Dame of Staten Island, 2-1, in a non-league game.

Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake sophomore Otis Ubriaco placed first in the Division 2 race, and Spartan runners took the next three spots, at the three-mile Fonda-Fultonville Invitational.
Ubriaco posted the day’s best time, a 16:23.81, with Scott Maughan (16:24.14), Kent Harlow (16:51.07) and Chance Wilk (17:04.65) following across the line. Burnt Hills runners took seven of the top 13 spots. Alney Tobias of Lansingburgh won the Division 1 race in 16:47.06.
Nicole Wojciechowski of Broadalbin-Perth (21:19.08) and Erika Kuhn of Glens Falls (20:52.04) won the girls’ races.
Colonie won the boys’ 5 x 2,400-meter relay, and Ballston Spa’s Max Groves had the fastest split (8:03.2), at the Niskayuna Ekiden at Iroquois Middle School.
Burnt Hills teams placed first and third in the girls’ 5 x 2,400 relay, and the Spartans had four of the best six split times, led by Molly Pezzulo (8:45.3).
