— The state Department of Taxation and Finance will no longer mail tax forms to residents.

With 93 percent of residents now paying their taxes electronically, state officials said they decided to stop mailing tax forms to save about $1 million in mailing, printing and processing costs.

"The use of paper tax forms has been declining steadily in recent years while increasing numbers of taxpayers file electronically," department Commissioner Robert L. Megna said in a statement. "Direct mailing of individual tax forms and instructions to personal income taxpayers is the most expensive per parcel mailing the department undertakes. Making this change is an effective way to save tax dollars."

About 9.4 million personal income tax forms are filed in New York state annually, and only about 462,000 tax filers used the paper packets in 2008, down from 592,000 in 2006.

Those who still file their taxes by mail can find all forms on the department's Web site, www.nystax.gov. Most common forms will still be found at many local libraries.

Now lets see. We are going to save a million dollars by making the taxpayer get the forms to fill out to tell what we earned and owe the State of New York.

Since the Gov. supports "share the wealth". I have a better saving. STOP! the free postage privilages of our legislators to tell us what they have done for us latelty. Actually, it should be what we done to you lateley.

It just gets better and better evryday.

You know the way to vote is whomever is in is out.

Well, that stinks. They already ask on the forms if you want copies mailed the next year, so they're already only mailing them to people who truly want them, meaning that none should be going to waste. Now, they're just making it harder for people to file, especially considering that fewer and fewer post offices seem to carry the forms anymore. Heck, I'd be willing to mail them a buck or two to cover the postage, if they'd save me the effort of running around town for a couple of afternoons trying to find the forms somewhere.

So I'm not going to receive mail notice that I owe tax or get forms because I don't have Internet access? That makes my Internet connection tax deductible. Sweet!
