Spartans run football record to 6-0

SOUTH GLENS FALLS — Paul Layton and Keaton Flint hooked up on an 88-yard touchdown pass play on Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s opening drive, and the Spartans clinched the Class A Northwest Division title by beating the winless Bulldogs,

56-0, Saturday.

Layton also ran for two touchdowns, as did Nick Henderson, while Jahi Owens led the Spartans (4-0, 6-0) with 96 rushing yards on seven carries. Eight different Spartans combined for 432 rushing yards on 31 carries, with Henderson netting 92, Erik Vuillaume 65, Layton 62 and backup quarterback Phil Neumann 60.

Division game.

Ahkiem Thompson and Chris Hughes scored on running plays as the Cannoneers took their 12-0 lead.

Nethaway helped the Braves to get within 12-7 at the half with a short TD run, then hit Tyler Hall with a touchdown pass in the third quarter. Luke Nethaway’s PAT gave the Braves the lead for good at 13-12.

Pat Sperow ran for a TD, and Nethaway hit Hall with another TD pass as the Braves went 5-1 in the South Division and overall.

Caleb Gleason added a TD for the 4-2 Cannoneers.

Cory Caswell threw a 27-yard scoring pass to Shane Hathaway, and Cody Menge ran for a touchdown for the Patriots, 1-2 in the West and 2-4 overall. Menge led Broadalbin-Perth with 85 yards on 14 carries.
