Stratford man charged for third time with stealing timber

STRATFORD — A Stratford man who admitted last year to stealing timber and was charged with similar crimes in April is facing new charges.

Department of Environmental Conservation police said Jaime Cool, 33, is accused in the latest case of cutting and removing about 140 trees from three properties along Hadcock Road and County Route 104 in Stratford between May 2007 and September 2007. The timber has an estimated value of $30,000, police said.

Cool was charged with three felony counts of grand larceny, three felony counts of criminal mischief and 45 misdemeanor counts of damaging trees belonging to another. He was arraigned in Town Court and sent to the Fulton County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

Cool’s wife, Jennifer, 32, was also charged with two counts of issuing bad checks related to the timber thefts, police said. She was arraigned and released.

Jaime Cool was charged in April with taking timber valued at $3,289 in March 2007 off property in the town of Oppenheim without the knowledge of the landowners. Those charges are still pending, police said.

Cool also pleaded guilty to grand larceny charges in April 2007 for harvesting trees without the permission of the landowner, police said.
