Swimming pool company, developer file for bankruptcy

— Two Capital Region firms have gone into bankruptcy in as many days.

On Sunday, Rotterdam Swimming Pool Center, which has also operated as Caribbean Pools, for Chapter 11 reorganization in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Albany. The Fort Hunter Road company cited $364,600 in debts and $109,500 in assets.

The Web site for Caribbean Pools & Spas, which notes the same business address as Rotterdam Swimming, states the company was founded in 1989. It provides designs, materials and construction services for above- and in-ground pools and spas. It also supplies chemicals, toys and other pool equipment.

The filing threatens payments to a host of unsecured creditors, the largest among them being Wells Fargo, which has an $83,000 claim.

In Schenectady, the Grandview Concrete Corp. has a $23,500 claim, William Larned & Sons has a $17,700 claim and TrustCo Bank has a $18,600 claim. Unsecured claims from several print and television media companies — including The Daily Gazette and Saratogian — total over $27,400.

Rotterdam Swimming attorney Robert Rock did not immediately return a call seeking comment. A woman who answered the phone at Rotterdam Swimming hung up after a reporter asked to speak to Dean Attanasio, the company’s president.

On Monday, Schenectady developer Mazzucco Construction Co. entered bankruptcy, with over a half million dollars in debts and no assets.

Mazzucco filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Albany. The Foster Avenue developer cited $604,173 in liabilities, which includes a $109,000 arbitration claim against it.

The case’s largest unsecured creditor is First Niagara Bank and Lemery Griesler LLC in Albany, who are listed as the guarantor of a loan, with a $160,000 claim. The creditors from the arbitration judgement are Lance and Carrie Wong and the Donohue, Sabo, Varley and Amstrong law firm in Colonie.

Mazzucco attorney Ralph Lewis Jr. could not be reached for comment.
