— A 14-year-old boy walking home from school saved the life of a baby who had fallen under the front wheel of a stopped bus that was about to drive off, police said.

Tyler Purvis-Mitchell, of 2 Sard Road, a sports-loving student at Albany Preparatory Charter School, was heading home around 2 p.m. Friday when he saw the 5-day-old baby fall out of his stroller.

β€œHe [the infant] was under the wheel of the bus and it was getting ready to leave,” Purvis-Mitchell said Saturday. β€œI ran over and grabbed him.”

He first had to step in front of the bus, he said. The driver saw him in time and stopped.

The child received a cut to his head and some abrasions, police said.
