— City police are investigating the Sunday night armed robbery of a North Allen Street social club.

Police said about 40 people were playing in a weekly poker game about 9:15 p.m. at the club at 192 N. Allen St. when four men walked in through the back door and held the participants up at gunpoint. The men, wearing hooded sweatshirts pulled up around their heads, robbed the victims of money, jewelry and other personal items totaling about $8,000 before fleeing on foot, police said.

One person was injured during the robbery, sustaining several small cuts to the hand from what is believed to have been a ricochet from a pellet gun discharged inside the club, police said. The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics, police said.

There are reports that a second location just around the corner on Central Avenue was also robbed during a card game within the last few weeks, police said, but that incident has yet to be reported to police. Detectives are looking for information on that incident to see if there is any connection with Sunday's robbery, police said.
