Here are the top theater recommendations, listed chronologically, for the summer as chosen by Gazette theater critic Paul Lamar:
- Alan Ayckburn mini-festival: “How the Other Half Loves” at The Theater Barn in New Lebanon (June 13 to 22) and “Bedroom Farce” at Oldcastle in Bennington (July 25 to Aug. 10.
- "Gutenberg! The Musical!” at Stageworks/Hudson in Hudson — A musical comedy that has been compared to “Waiting for Guffman,” and that’s a good enough endorsement for any lover of theater.
- "Filler Up!” at Adirondack Theatre Festival in Glens Falls — Deb Filler, who did “Punch Me in the Stomach” a few years back at Adirondack Theatre Festival, is returning to Glens Falls. She’s very funny. June 30 to July 5.
- "As You Like It” at Saratoga Shakespeare in Saratoga Springs — Another delicious outdoor romp in Congress Park from this troupe. July 15 to 27.
- "A Flea in Her Ear” at Williamstown Theater Festival in Williamstown, Mass. — The Feydeau farce adapted by modern comic master David Ives, on the Main Stage. July 31 to Aug. 10.
