Scotia softball team locks up sectional berth

Cara Celorio tripled in two runs to tie the game, and Gabby Mazzucco scored her with a sacrifice fly as Scotia-Glenville edged Broadalbin-Perth, 5-4, in a Foothills Council softball game on Tuesday.

The Tartans, who locked up a spot in the Class A sectionals with the win, trailed, 4-1, going into the home sixth. They scored once in the sixth before Celorio — who was 5-for-5 — and Mazzucco delivered in the seventh.

Scotia improved to 7-4 in the league, and assured itself of at least a .500 league record.

Saratoga Catholic needed only 41⁄2 innings to beat Northville, 18-1, in the Western Athletic Conference.

Kate Jasper had three hits and drove in five runs, and Elisa

DiMauro knocked in another three runs as the 10-3, 14-4 Saints pounded out 19 hits.

Natasha Williams had the only hit and run for the Falcons.

Lauren Pitman and Andi Smith drove in runs as Galway stopped Fort Plain, 2-1, to gain a split of a double-header.

Kaitlyn Trembley and Brittney Nellis both had a pair of hits for the Hilltoppers.

Fort Plain won the opener, 14-1, as Jillian Fredericks had two hits and drove in a run.

Adrieanna Diamond had a pair of homers and drove in four runs as Schoharie edged Mayfield, 6-5.

Caitlin DiCaprio singled and doubled, and both Maggie Mulligan and Megan Miller added a two-base hit as Amsterdam beat Voorheesville, 4-1, in a non-leaguer to move to 7-6 on the season.

Jenna Pettograsso finished with a two-hitter as Loudonville Christian School beat Berlin, 13-1, in the Central Hudson Valley League.

Jillian Thornton went 4-for-4, and Shannon Hoffman had three hits for the Eagles, 8-3 in league play.

Baseball

Chris Snyder’s third-inning single stood as the game-winner as Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk clinched at least a tie for the Colonial Council title by beating Cohoes, 3-2.

Winning pitcher Rob Nolan singled home a run in the first inning, and Joe Boomhower had a pair of stolen bases and scored twice as the Indians moved to 13-2 with one game remaining.

Cohoes, 9-5, got an RBI single from pitcher Zach Ramsay.

Cobleskill-Richmondville scored five runs in the first inning and held off Mechanicville, 9-7.

Chris Arnold drove in two runs for the 3-12 Bulldogs, and Justin Markley had two hits and an RBI.

Brian Mariano went 2-for-3 and knocked in a pair of runs for the 4-10 Red Raiders.

LaSalle moved to 11-0 in the Big 10 and 14-0 overall with an 8-3 win at CBA.

Will Remillard’s three-run

double highlighted the Cadets’ eight-run first inning.

A.J. Rabone had an RBI double for the 9-3 Brothers.

Zak Hurn had three hits and three RBI, and both Tim Beninati and Eric Croote drove in a pair of runs as Schoharie got past Middleburgh, 13-8, in the Western Athletic Conference.

Steven Bouck had three hits for the Knights.

Shane Matthews went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and four RBI as Saratoga Catholic (11-4,

16-4) beat Northville, 10-5.

Ryan West had three hits for the Falcons.

Mike Teri drove in three runs and struck out two hitters on seven pitches in the seventh inning as Lake George (11-0, 15-2) beat Argyle, 9-7, to lock up the Western Division title in the Adirondack League.

Caleb Gleason hit two home runs — a two-run shot and a solo blast — in an eight-run fifth inning that carried Watervliet to a 15-2 non-league victory over Hoosick Falls.

Tim Burns hit a three-run HR for the Cannoneers (11-10), and Justin Legault had two doubles, a single and two RBI.

Andrew Morin doubled in both runs for Hoosick Falls (7-8).

Lacrosse

Niskayuna erupted for six goals in the third quarter, and James Manchester and Stefan Sloma combined for 12 saves in a 9-1 Suburban Council victory over Shaker.

Steve D’Amario had two goals and an assist for Niskayuna (11-0, 14-0), Dan McKinney had a goal and three assists, and Will McPartlon, Seth Berggren and Jared Franze each added two goals. Ryan Gifford tallied for the Blue Bison.

Niskayuna led at the half, 2-0, before putting together its game-breaking third quarter.

Travis Moore clicked for three goals, and Paul Jones and Quinn Connell both had two goals and an assist to lift Guilderland (10-1, 13-1) past Saratoga Springs, 9-6. Chris Adams had a hat trick for the Blue Streaks.

Greg Dunlavey scored five goals as Ballston Spa defeated Columbia, 15-12. Jeff Seager had four goals and two assists for the Scotties, and Mike Boisvert totaled three goals and an assist.

Rob Law sparked the Blue Devils with four goals and two assists.

Ryan Wilson collected three goals and an assist, and Queensbury ran its Foothills Council record to 8-0 with a 15-2 rout of Glens Falls. Chris Graveley also scored three goals for the Spartans (12-1 overall). Andrew Leege scored both goals for the Indians.

In other Foothills games, Scotia-Glenville beat Johnstown, 11-6, and Greenwich edged Schuylerville,

9-8.

Kevin Wentworth paced

Scotia-Glenville with three goals, and Jason Restina and Eric Landry both pumped in a pair.

Phil Satterlee and David Sagan scored two goals apiece for the Sir Bills.

Eli Kappas topped Greenwich with three goals and an assist. Colton Barber had three goals for Schuylerville.

Niall Cahill scored five goals to propel LaSalle past Troy, 13-1, in the Big 10.

Meghan Devlin piled up seven goals and two assists, Sara

Bonacquist scored four goals and the Schenectady girls’ team

(4-7) defeated Ballston Spa, 14-4, in a non-league game. Kayla Lawrence scored three goals for the Scotties.

Kat Sutton scored four goals and assisted on two in Saratoga Springs’ 18-4 non-league win over Glens Falls.

Caroline Gersuk worked for four goals, Nicole Borisenok had three goals and two assists, and Albany Academy for Girls beat Scotia-Glenville, 12-5, in the Capital District Women’s Lacrosse League. Rene Glass and Amy Kalink­iewicz scored two goals apiece for the Tartans.

Track and field

Holy Names waltzed to the girls’ team title, and Lansingburgh won the boys’ crown in the Colonial Council championships.

Holy Names nearly doubled up Cobleskill-Richmondville, finishing with a 212-111 margin of vic­tory. Lansingburgh finished with 150 points to outdistance Voorheesville (108) in the boys’ competition.

Freshman Klarissa Ricks had an impressive double for Holy Names, winning the 100 (12.6) and the long jump (17-81⁄2). Sophomore Theresa Kennedy doubled in the high jump (5-7) and triple jump (37-31⁄2), and Johanna Ohm picked up wins in the 3,000 (11:35.0) and 2,000 steeplechase (7:51.4).

Alney Tobias sparked Lansingburgh’s victory by winning three events — the 800 (2:01.2), 1,600 (4:35.4) and the 3,000 steeplechase (10:49.9).

The best race of the day came in the 100, where Steve Black of Lansingburgh (11.63) edged out teammate Connor Gallo (11.66) and DeShawn Banks of Schalmont (11.67).

Josh Glover of Voorheesville was also a double winner, taking the pole vault (12-0) and the long jump (20-1⁄2).
