Cops: Thief nabbed after car runs out of gas

— Troy police say a teenaged car thief was caught Monday after his loot ran out of gas.

Police said Qualon L. Gibson, 17, of 87 6th Ave., Troy, stole a vehicle from a 2nd Street resident who was moving cars in his driveway and left the engine of a 2003 Infinity running.

Police said they Gibson was reportedly driving towards Troy, but officer located the vehicle a short time later at 6th and Glen streets after the car had run out of gas. Gibson was arrested inside a nearby Stewarts Shop, where police said he was purchasing a bottle of dry gas.

Gibson was charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, both felonies. He was arraigned in Town Court and will return at a later date to face the charges.
