General Electric Co. on Tuesday announced a deal valued at almost $1 billion to sell gas turbines for an Algerian power plant.
The deal provides GE F-class gas turbines to Algerian electric company Shariket Karhaba Koudiet Eddraouch Spa. According to GE officials, the contract requires GE and its consortium partner, the Spanish engineering firm Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construct, to construct the Koudiet Eddraouch power plant in El-Tarf province, about 435 miles east of Algiers.
The new facility is expected to produce 1,200 megawatts of power, which would increase Algeria’s current installed generation capacity by approximately 18 percent.
Although GE gas turbines are not manufactured in Schenectady, GE Energy’s power generation business is headquartered on Erie Blvd.
GE plans to manufacture the F-class gas turbines for the Koudiet Eddraouch at GE Energy’s facilities in Belfort, France.
