BALLSTON SPA A Waterford babysitter is expected to be sentenced to prison after she admitted she scalded the feet of a toddler in her care.
Chasity Pasinello, 25, pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court this morning to recklessly causing serious physical injury to a child less than 11 years old while serving as the child's day care provider, a felony.
Pasinello was indicted on the charge for injuries suffered by then-2 1/2-year-old Christian Cail last October. The child suffered second- and third-degree burns to both of his feet when Pasinello left him standing in scalding bath water.
Cail spent two weeks at Westchester Medical Center, where skin from his thighs was used to replace the burned skin on his feet.
District Attorney James Murphy III said he was satisfied with the plea, and Judge Jerry Scarano set sentencing for Aug. 12. Pasinello is expected to be sentenced to 1 1/2 to 4 years in prison.
"This is one of the first prosecutions in the area which makes it a felony for a child day care provider to recklessly cause serious physical injury to a child," Murphy said.
