— Firefighters quickly battled back a blaze that struck the second floor of a house on Sixth Avenue this afternoon.

Fire broke out just before 12:30 p.m. in the attic of a house at 1530 Sixth Ave. and spread to the second floor. Capt. Thomas Egan said firefighters from the Watervliet, Watervliet Arsenal and Troy fire departments brought the fire under control in about 15 minutes

There were no injuries. Egan said most of the damage was contained to the second floor with some minor water damage on the first floor. He believed a family of four people lived there and would be able to reoccupy it after it was cleaned. The second floor was unoccupied.

The cause is still under investigation but Egan said it does not look suspicious.
