— The Basic Creek Reservoir, which has been closed to visitors since Sept. 11, 2001, for security reasons, will reopen June 11 for fishing and hiking along its shores.

The area was originally scheduled to reopen June 20.

"Due to the overwhelming response by residents throughout the Capital Region, I asked that preparations for opening day be accelerated," said Mayor Jerry Jennings.

Jennings said that since the area was closed in 2001 he has received weekly calls from residents to reopen the facility.

Permits can be obtained by calling the Port of Albany security office at 689-1388. The cost of a three-year permit will be $10 for city residents and $20 for non-residents. Permits are free for children under age 14, but are required.
