Freshman forward Kelly Zajac’s Union career got off to an inauspicious start.

Zajac was called for a major penalty for hitting from behind, and was ejected from the game. What worried Zajac wasn’t whether he was going to play the next night against Nebraska-Omaha in the championship game. It was how his dad, who came from his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to see his son play, was going to react.
“I was wondering what he was going to say when I went up to the stands to see him,” Zajac said. “It was just a disappointment.”
But Zajac has recovered nicely from that first game.
