ALBANY — Police are looking for five men who approached a man Monday afternoon as he sat in his vehicle on Second Street, struck him in the head with a gun and took $2,000 in cash.

Det. James Miller, spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said the victim told police one of the men flagged him down at about 5:20 p.m. Monday as he drove up Second Street between Judson and Lexington avenues. When he pulled over, the suspects approached him and began punching him through his car window.

Another suspect entered the passenger side of his vehicle with a handgun and demanded the victim "give it up" and struck him in the head with the gun, Miller said. The suspects stole the victim's wallet, which had $2,000 cash in it.

The victim struggled with one of the suspects, punching him as he was forced out of the car. He got back to his vehicle and drove to Livingston Street and Judson Avenue, where he flagged down a police officer.

The victim, who suffered a laceration to his head and was treated at Albany Medical Center, said he knew one of the suspects.

Police said the suspects were all black men wearing dark clothing, but they had no further description.
