— The U.S. Army has announced it will soon provide detailed information about how private companies can lease land on 57 acres of the Watervliet Arsenal.

Army officials said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, will host an industry forum on Sept. 11 to explain the Arsenal’s Enhanced Use Leasing project for private sector developers. The forum will be conducted inside the Phoenix Room of the Holiday Inn on Wolf Road in Albany from 8:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The security advantages of doing business inside the Watervliet Arsenal campus have already helped to attract high-tech companies like Benét Laboratories and Vistec Lithography Inc., which will celebrate its grand opening in October.

Arsenal officials said the EUL program is distinct from the Army’s current contract with the Arsenal Business and Technology Partnership. The Partnership is a non-profit organization that has had a contract with the U.S. Army since 2001 to attract new industry and to create new jobs on approximately 250,000 square feet of Arsenal property.

According to Army officials, the EUL program will allow the Arsenal to offer an additional 57 acres of underutilized land to private developers in exchange for rent to be returned to the Army in the form of services.
