GLOVERSVILLE The arraignment of Randy L. Green on a murder charge was completed on Monday in Gloversville City Court and he was returned to jail with no bail set.
The 26-year-old Green is accused of using a knife with a 4- to 6-inch blade to repeatedly stab Raymond Pike, 63, of Bleecker Street.
Pike’s body was discovered about 5 a.m. Friday on the Rail Trail, about 50 yards east of Foster Street.
Fulton County District Attorney Louise K. Sira said it is apparent that Pike and Green were at Pike’s apartment earlier in the evening and began arguing. About midnight, she said, they set off for Price Chopper, taking the shortcut along the Rail Trail, which intersects Bleecker Street near Pike’s apartment and leads east, eventually running along Price Chopper’s parking lot.
Sira said the two began arguing again at the crime scene location and Green, who had been drinking, pulled the knife and attacked Pike.
The subject of the arguments, Sira said, is still unclear.
Results of the autopsy conducted Saturday at Albany Medical Center Hospital may be available today, Sira said. The preliminary results, she added, are consistent with police descriptions of multiple stab wounds to Pike’s upper torso.
Police officials have confirmed that the knife has been recovered. Sira declined to discuss the circumstances of that discovery.
Green, who served prison time after knifing a man during a 2004 street fight on Burr Street, was arrested late Friday afternoon on one count of second-degree murder in the slaying of Pike.
On Monday, represented by Gloversville attorney Robert Abdella, his arraignment was completed and he was returned to jail without bail. Abdella reserved his right to have a felony hearing to examine the substance of the charges against Green.
Pike was a Level 3 sex offender, having been convicted in 1990 of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old boy in Johnstown. He apparently was not accused of any other sexual offenses after his release from prison in that incident.
Gloversville Police Department Capt. James Lorenzoni said the stabbing is not believed to be a hate crime.

i don't really know what to think of this. the "victim" was a sex offender. personally i do not believe 13 years is enough for a person that steals away a child's innocence. and how do we know that he didn't repeat again? the article says otherwise. but godforbid, there's another frightened child out there keeping it a secret until it erupts to the surface. and the "accused" is a prior offender with a violent history. maybe if these two served longer sentences this would never have happened. but i really cannot say i feel sorry that a sex offender lost his life.

yes....how do we know if he did not repeat...stats show that sex offenders DO NOT stop abusing...most would admit to that...I think his grandkids and nephews should be interviewed and we may get the answer..
