— Police have recovered the body of an Albany-area man who apparently drowned while swimming in a Hudson Valley creek.

State police say 20-year-old Abdon Wilson Juarez Ramirez of Ravena was swimming in Catskill Creek Monday afternoon with three friends when he went under and didn’t resurface.

The friends went to nearby Route 23 and flagged down a trooper. Police divers responded and they found his body four hours later in about 12 feet of water under a bridge in the town of Catskill.

The drowning occurred along a stretch of the creek that’s popular with swimmers although it’s on private property.

An autopsy will be conducted today at an Albany hospital to determine the exact cause of death.
