engagement of their daughter
Maria Filiberto to Steven
Schumaker, son of Robert
and Margaret Schumaker of
The future bride is a graduate
of Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons
and the College of St.
Joseph, VT. She is a pre-school
teacher at Maple Leaf.
Her fi ance is a graduate of
Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons,
HVCC and Franciscan University.
He is employed by the
NYS Dept. of Tax & Finance.

Lauren A. Marks and John
F. Grygiel were married July
17, 2010. The ceremony and reception
took place at Altamont
Manor, Altamont, NY. Father
John Weyand offi ciated. The
bride is the daughter of David
R. and Doreen A. Marks of Rotterdam.
Maid of honor was Amy
Lombardi. Bridesmaids were
Kimberly Flickinger, Amanda
Rice and Jessica Smith.
Best man was Greg Grygiel,
(brother of the groom). Ushers
were Jon Busher, Kirk Gall and
Christopher Marks (brother of
the bride).
Lauren is a graduate of
Schalmont High School, Utica
College and The College of
Saint Rose. She is a library assistant
at The Albany College
of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
in Albany, NY.
Her husband is a graduate of
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High
School and the University at
Albany. He is a clerk at the U.S.
Postal Service in Rexford, NY.
The couple took a honeymoon
trip to Bermuda. They
reside in Scotia.

Wedding: Nydegger and Akari

Liesl Ann Nydegger and
Omar Khalil Akari were married
July 20, 2010. Rev. Bruce
Danzara offi ciated. The destination
wedding ceremony and
reception took place at Pacific
Edge Villa in Laguna, CA., on
the deck over the sand overlooking
the Pacifi c Ocean. A
second local reception was
held at the Woodlin Club, Glenville,
NY on August 14th.
The bride is the daughter of
Rudy and Karen Nydegger of
Glenville, NY. The groom is the
son of Carol Akari of Amsterdam
and the late Khalil Akari.
Maid of honor was Laura
were Ashley Reherman (sister),
Colby Enides (sister),
Morgen Nydegger (sister),
Sabrina Green (groom’s sister),
Brittany Whelan (cousin), Ashley
Lewis (friend) and Caroline
Hood (friend).
Best man was Brett Williams.
Ushers were Jameel Akari
(brother), Austin Nydegger
(bride’s brother), Jeff Iovinelli
(friend), Dillon Barfi eld
(friend), Brad Cole (friend)
and Charlie Rachal (friend).
Ringbearers were George
(cat), wearing rings on a pillow
with Lucas Reherman (nephew).
The bride is a graduate of
BH-BL High School and Siena
College. She earned her master’s
degree in Public Health,
and has begun a PhD in Global
Health at Claremont Graduate
University, Claremont, CA.
Her husband is a graduate of
BH-BL High School and Wentworth
Institute of Technology,
Boston, MA. He is a website developer
for DealerSocket, San
Clemente, CA.
The couple honeymooned at
Hotel del Coronado, Coronado,
CA. They reside in Huntington

Anniversary: Miele

Frank and Connie (Iozzia)
Miele of Schenectady recently
celebrated their 65th wedding
anniversary with a dinner at
Dolce Vita Restaurant, given
by their children.
The couple were married
April 20, 1946 in Syracuse,
NY. Their children are Becky
Brooks (Chuck) and Michael
(Peggy) Miele. Their grandchildren
are Randy (Kristen)
Brooks, Jennifer Brooks and
Hannah Miele. They also have
one great-grandchild, Connor

Anniversary: Hohenstein

Bill and Peggy (Wood) Hohenstein
of Scotia recently
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary at a party at Glen
Sanders Mansion and with a
trip to Las Vegas. The party
was given by their children.
The couple were married
March 15, 1961 in Catskill, NY.
Peggy is a graduate of Coxsackie-
Athens High School.
She is a cook at the W. Rotterdam
Senior Ctr. She is a leader
at Schenectady Compassionate
Friends and active in church.
Her husband is a graduate
of Christian Brothers Academy
and Albany Business College.
He served in the U.S. Air
Force. He is retired from Bank
of America. He is a VIP Stable
Harness Horse Racing Owner.
He also enjoys house and lawn
care and bowling.
Their children are William
(Melissa) Hohenstein of Clifton
Park, Elizabeth Litchfi eld,
of Ballston Spa, Robert Hohenstein
(deceased) and Brian
(Deborah) Hohenstein of Chester,
MA. Their granchildren are
Nikki Litchfi eld of Gloversville,
Jade Litchfi eld of Schenectady
and Jessica Hohenstein of Scotia.
They also have one greatgrandchild,
Kendra Egan.
The groom’s brother is Rev.
Robert Hohenstein, pastor
of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Church, Schenectady. His gift
was an apostolic blessing from
Pope Benedict XVI.
