Mark Gouger of Scotia and Kimberly Gouger of Schen-ectady announce the engagement of their daughter, Desiree Gouger to Mark Sullivan Jr., son of Mark Sullivan Sr. of Gloversville and Valarie Sullivan of Johnstown.
The future bride is a graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School and HVCC with an A.S. degree in fine arts. She is co-manager at Walmart, Albany.
Her fiance is a graduate of Johnstown High School. He is co-manager at Walmart, Queensbury.
The couple became engaged March 15, 2009 at Mark’s mother’s house. The day had many tears and smiles. The couple met through work and have both been with Walmart for 7 years. They met at the Scotia Walmart, while both working there.
A June 2010 wedding is planned at the Hall of Springs, Saratoga.
Malcolm and Gladys (nee Rockwell) Buchner of Galway, NY celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day in the company of four generations of family. Malcolm and Gladys were married in Pittsfield, MA on November 22, 1944 and renewed their vows on November 26, 1944 at the Forest Avenue Methodist Church in Amsterdam.
Malcolm was co-owner with his brother Lewis, of Buchner Brothers Painting and Decorating, Inc. The well-known Amsterdam business was founded by their father Frank Buchner in 1909. Gladys worked many years for Lurie’s Department Store and then for the Carl Company. They were avid boaters and spent many summers with their children on the Great Sacandaga Lake.
After living on Finlay Street in Amsterdam for more than 35 years, they moved in 1982 to the family summer home on Galway Lake. Malcolm still enjoys gardening and woodworking and Gladys continues to play the piano and make quilts and mittens for her great-grandchildren. They are great birdwatchers and also go out to breakfast regularly.
The Buchners have 4 children: Gail Breen of Schoharie, Lee Peeke of Mariaville, Rebecca Buchner of Saratoga Springs and Malcolm (Rocky) Buchner of Galway. They have 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
