Dr. Richard Brooks and Valerie Brooks of Niskayuna announce the engagement of their son, Eric Brooks, to Michelle Austein, daughter of Dr. David Austein and Linda Austein, of Gaithersberg, MD. Eric is the grandson of Gladys Kozinn and the late Dr. Philip Kozinn of Belle Harbor, NY and the late Belle and Hyman Brooks of Utica. Michelle is the granddaughter of Sylvia Golub, the late Max Golub of Newburgh and the late Pearl and Max Austein of South Plainfield, NJ.
The future bride is a graduate of Northwestern University, with a bachelor of science degree in journalism. She is a writer and editor for the U.S. State Department.
Her fiance is a graduate of Niskayuna High School and Brandeis University, where he received his bachelor’s degree, and American University, where he received his master’s degree in political science. He is an evaluation coordinator web specialist for the U.S. State Department.
A November 2008 wedding is planned.
Bernadette and Jim Whiting of Mechanicville announce the engagement of their son, Joshua Whiting, to Rustyn Chamberlain, daughter of Shawn and Jim Chamberlain of Pleasant Garden, NC.
The future bride is a graduate of Southern Guilford High School, Greensboro, NC and the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, where she received her teaching degree. She is an English teacher at Southern Guilford High School.
Her fiance is a graduate of LaSalle Institute, Troy. He received his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He is branch manager at Guaranteed Supply Co., Greensboro.
A July 2009 wedding is planned.
Fortunata Migliore and Angelo Paglialonga were married June 7, 2008 at St. Patrick’s Church, Watervliet, NY. Father Edward Deimeke officiated. A reception followed at The Vista Van Patten in Clifton Park, ending with a display of fireworks.
The bride is the daughter of Mario and Carmela Migliore of Latham. The groom is the son of Peter and Sylvia Paglialonga of Rotterdam.
Matron of honor was Gina Taccone. Bridesmaids were Maria Maselli, Gina Maselli, Sabrina Paglialonga and Heather DeFilippo. Junior bridesmaid was Lea Sposito.
Best man was Fabio Franco. Ushers were Vincenzo Migliore, Guiseppe DeFilippo, Gianpaolo Franco and Samuele Campagnano. Junior groomsmen was Michael Sposito.
The bride is a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh. She is employed in the finance office at Rockefeller Institute of Government in Albany.
Her husband graduated from Siena College and SUNY Albany, where he received his M.B.A. He is a senior budget analyst at Albany Medical Center.
The couple took a honeymoon trip to Maui.
Floyd “Skip” and Marie Louise Slater of Schenectady recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party at Guan-Ho–Ha Fish & Game Club with family and friends, given by their sons.
The couple were married July 19, 1958 at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Schenectady. The former Marie Hulett graduated from Shenendehowa High School. She was an administrative clerk at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory for over 24 years, retiring in 1995. She enjoys “Family Day” every Tuesday, reading and crosswords.
Her husband is a graduate of Schoharie High School. He was a drill rig operator for over 37 years with the NYSDOT, retiring in 1991. He enjoys his sons, grandchildren and family.
Their sons are Floyd “Butch” Slater and Gary Slater, both of Schenectady. They also have three grandchildren, Gina Marie Maresca, Floyd “Mickey” Slater III and Ashlyn Denise Slater. They have a great-grandson, Nicholas Frank Kopczynski, of Schenectady.
Skip and Marie love to be with their children, grand and great-grandchildren and enjoy attending Ashlyn’s basketball games and their condo in Florida.
Theodore and Janet Dick of Amsterdam, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a renewal of their marriage vows at Cranesville Reformed Church, followed by an evening of dining and dancing at Crystal Ristorante, Amsterdam. The party was given by their children, Kathleen Fryc and Daniel Dixon and families.
The couple were married December 31, 1957 in Canaan, Connecticut.
The former Janet Snyder is a retired teacher from the Greater Amsterdam School District.
Her husband is a retired NYS highway engineer and currently works part-time for McDonald Engineering of Schenectady.
The couple also have three grandchildren, Mallory Fryc, Sydney Dixon and Clare Dixon.
